Stunning viewsThis large, modern resort is nestled within the largest ski area in Switzerland, the 4 Valleys, and is a fantastic base to explore the 400 km/248 mi of slopes that stretch from Verbier to Thyon. The resort shares its runs with Verbier but is comparably more affordable to visit, and provides easy access from nearby airports in Geneva and Sion. The surrounding high mountain peaks, expansive gondolas, and luxurious chalets make for breathtaking scenery as you traverse the diverse terrain into the Rhône Valley. There’s also plenty of freeriding available, as this is the birthplace of the Freeride World Tour. The resort is packed full of bars, restaurants and shops, and non-ski activities here include winter walking and snowshoeing trails, ice skating, rock climbing and more!

Skiing from Nendaz means accessing terrain that ranges from gentle nursery slopes right in the village to the dramatic high-altitude runs descending from Mont-Fort at 3,330m. The local slopes are south-west facing, catching plenty of sun, while the higher terrain around the glacier holds its snow well throughout the season. The connection to the wider 4 Vallées network means variety is essentially limitless - you could ski for a fortnight and never repeat the same run.
The mountain has a relaxed pace compared to some of its neighbours. Lift queues are generally short, even during peak weeks, and the terrain flows naturally between sectors. From Plan du Fou and Siviez, you can branch out towards Verbier, Veysonnaz, or Thyon, each with its own character.
Nendaz is a genuinely encouraging place to start skiing. The nursery area is right in the village centre, with gentle gradients and a magic carpet that make the first few sessions stress-free. From there, beginners can progress onto the wide blue runs around the Tracouet sector, which are well-groomed, uncrowded, and served by modern lifts.
The village-level slopes mean you can ski back to your accommodation on easy terrain, and the compact layout keeps everything manageable. Beginners travelling with more experienced skiers won't feel left behind - there's always something nearby at the right level.
WeSki insider tip: The Tracouet blue runs are wide, gentle, and rarely busy - they're among the most pleasant learning terrain in the Valais.
Intermediates have an outstanding time in Nendaz. The local terrain around Plan du Fou provides long, satisfying red runs with consistent pitch and lovely views, while the link through Siviez opens up the vast 4 Vallées network. Confident intermediates can venture towards Verbier's Savoleyres sector for cruising reds with a different feel.
The runs from Gentianes down through Plan du Fou are particularly rewarding - sustained descents with enough gradient to test technique without being intimidating. The interconnected nature of the ski area means you can plan a different route each day and still discover new terrain.
WeSki insider tip: Take the run from Gentianes towards Siviez early in the morning for perfectly groomed corduroy and virtually empty slopes.
The Mont-Fort glacier provides Nendaz's most challenging terrain. The descent from the summit at 3,330m is a sustained, demanding run with variable snow conditions and genuine exposure - it's one of the most exhilarating marked descents in Switzerland. Below the glacier, the steep blacks around Gentianes and Tortin will test strong skiers, with mogul fields and narrow passages that demand commitment.
Off-piste opportunities are extensive, particularly in the Tortin valley and around the Mont-Fort massif. The Backside of Mont-Fort is a well-known freeride itinerary with steep, sustained pitches. Local guides can access further terrain in the surrounding valleys. Avalanche equipment is essential for any off-piste exploration.
WeSki insider tip: The Tortin mogul field is a rite of passage for advanced skiers in the 4 Vallées. If it intimidates you, watch from the chairlift first to pick your line.
Nendaz provides good snowboarding terrain with wide, open pistes and natural features. The local terrain park at Tracouet has jumps and rails for progression, and the broader 4 Vallées network provides excellent freeriding opportunities, particularly around Mont-Fort. The main caution for boarders is the flat traverses connecting some sectors - plan your routes to minimise time unstrapping.
The terrain around Mont-Fort and Tortin provides some of Switzerland's most accessible freeride terrain. Classic itineraries include the Backside of Mont-Fort and the descent to Tortin, both requiring good off-piste skills and avalanche awareness. For those with a guide, the wider Valais mountains open up extensive touring and ski mountaineering possibilities.
Several ski schools operate in Nendaz, including the Swiss Ski School and the international Neige Aventure. Group and private lessons are available in English, French, and German. Beginners benefit from the dedicated nursery area, while more advanced skiers can book specialist off-piste guiding or technique clinics. Children's programmes are well-established, with facilities for very young children.
Nendaz has a terrain park in the Tracouet sector with a range of features suited to intermediate and progressing riders. For a more extensive freestyle setup, the wider 4 Vallées network includes additional parks, most notably at Thyon. The natural terrain around Mont-Fort also provides plenty of natural features for creative freeriding.

Nendaz has a strong reputation as a family destination, and it's well-earned. The village is compact and largely traffic-free in the centre, with a genuine community feel. Young children have dedicated snow gardens and beginners' areas right in the village, plus excellent childcare facilities at the kids' club. The ski schools run programmes for children from around three years old.
Older children and teenagers can explore the wider 4 Vallées network as their skills develop, and there are fun toboggan runs and ice skating to enjoy off the slopes. The heated outdoor pools and thermal baths at Bains de Saillon (a short drive away) make for a brilliant family afternoon, and teenagers with some independence will enjoy the freedom of the well-connected mountain.
Dining is family-friendly throughout the village, with restaurants serving hearty Swiss classics like raclette, fondue, and rösti. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried - parents can unwind on a terrace with a glass of Valais wine while keeping an eye on children playing in the village square.
Nendaz's sunny position and strong local culture make it a rewarding place to spend time beyond the pistes. Whether you're taking a rest day, travelling with non-skiers, or simply want to slow the pace, the resort and surrounding area have plenty to keep you engaged.
The Valais mountains around Nendaz provide a beautiful setting for winter activities beyond skiing and snowboarding:
Nendaz and the surrounding Valais region have a rich culture and plenty of options for days off the slopes. The sunny climate and traditional village setting make it a pleasant place to explore at a slower pace.
Dining in Nendaz reflects its Valais roots - hearty, generous, and built around excellent local ingredients. Mountain restaurants serve traditional Swiss cooking with genuine warmth, while the village has a growing selection of options ranging from casual pizzerias to more refined dining.
WeSki insider tip: Raclette in the Valais is a different experience from the touristy version elsewhere in Switzerland. Ask for raclette du Valais AOP - it's made from local raw milk and has a depth of flavour that's worth seeking out.
Nendaz's après-ski scene is friendly and low-key rather than raucous. The atmosphere centres on sun terraces, good wine, and conversation rather than thumping bass and table-dancing. Slope-side bars catch the late-afternoon sun, and the village centre has a handful of spots that keep things going into the evening - but don't expect a party resort.
That said, there's a genuine warmth to Nendaz's social scene. It's the kind of place where you end up chatting to fellow skiers over a vin chaud and making plans for the next day's skiing. For those who want more, Verbier's livelier nightlife is accessible via the ski area.

Nendaz offers a mix of self-catered apartments, chalets, and hotels. The village of Haute-Nendaz is the main hub, with most accommodation within walking distance of the lifts and village centre. Apartments and chalets are popular with families and groups, offering flexibility and space. Hotels range from comfortable three-star properties to larger four-star options with spa facilities. The compact village layout means distances are short, and a free shuttle bus connects the main zones.
The local Nendaz-Veysonnaz pass covers the immediate ski area, while the full 4 Vallées pass extends access to Verbier, Thyon, and the wider network. For most visitors, the 4 Vallées pass is the better option, opening up over 400km of terrain. Check for family and multi-day pass options when booking your Nendaz ski holiday through WeSki to find the best fit for your trip.
Several rental shops operate in Haute-Nendaz, with a full range of ski and snowboard equipment available. Pre-booking during peak weeks is recommended. WeSki partners with SkiSet shops in Nendaz, letting you add equipment to your package and collect on arrival. Browse Nendaz ski deals to build your perfect trip.
Haute-Nendaz is compact and walkable, with most accommodation, restaurants, and the main gondola within a few minutes of each other. A free shuttle bus connects the main residential areas to the lifts throughout the day. For evening dining or drinks, the village centre is manageable on foot. Taxis are available for journeys further afield, and the road to Sion takes around 20 minutes.
The nearest airports are Geneva (around 190km) and Sion (15km, seasonal flights). Zurich is roughly 280km away. The Swiss rail network connects to Sion, from where a bus or taxi takes you up to Haute-Nendaz in around 30 minutes. WeSki provides car rentals from the airport as well as private transfers to Nendaz. Add them to your Nendaz ski holiday package for seamless door-to-door travel.
Nendaz is one of the best family resorts in Switzerland. The village is compact and safe, with dedicated children's ski areas, excellent ski schools with English-speaking instructors, and a range of family-friendly activities including tobogganing, ice skating, and thermal baths nearby. The relaxed atmosphere and manageable scale make it easy to organise family days.
Nendaz connects to the wider 4 Vallées ski area via the Siviez lift hub. From there, you can ski towards Verbier's Savoleyres sector, though reaching Verbier's main slopes requires additional lift connections. The link works well for day trips, and the 4 Vallées pass covers the full network.
Nendaz tends to be more affordable than some of the higher-profile Swiss resorts while still giving access to the same quality of skiing through the 4 Vallées connection. Accommodation, dining, and lift passes are generally priced below resorts like Verbier and Zermatt, making it a smart choice for those seeking Swiss quality without the premium.
The local slopes are south-west facing and can soften in the afternoon sun, but the high-altitude terrain around Mont-Fort and the glacier (up to 3,330m) holds snow reliably throughout the season. The season typically runs from mid-November to late April. Snowmaking supplements the lower slopes.
Nendaz has a friendly, relaxed après-ski scene focused on sun terraces, local wine, and village bars. It's sociable rather than party-focused. For a bigger night out, Verbier is accessible through the ski area during the day, or by car or taxi in the evening.

I usually book flights, ground transportation, hotel, ski rental and lift tickets myself but this year used WeSki for a trip to Morzine. It was so much easier. Everything worked perfectly - ground transportation arrived on time and there was plenty of feedback throughout the whole process giving you confidence the vacation would go smoothly.
A really useful service that is so much easier to use than other 'all-inclusive' sites. It nicely bridges the gap between a travel agent and booking the trip yourself online. I'll use WeSki every time I go skiing from now on.
We booked a late minute skiing trip to Morzine through we ski. We looked at booking the trip ourselves but could get anywhere near the price quoted by we ski. The company was excellent and we had no problems at all from start to finish. I would definitely use them to book another weekend skiing trip.
Seamless experience from start to finish. I was spending ages trying to sort out a weekend break and managed to do it with we ski in minutes and for the same price as booking it all up yourself. Flight, transfers and accommodation was all as expected and faultless.
