Wanaka is a strong family pick – it's relaxed, easy to navigate, and close to Cardrona, which has dedicated beginner and kids' areas. New Zealand is a great place to learn. Coronet Peak and Cardrona both have well-run ski schools with gentle nursery slopes, and the quieter mountains mean less pressure than busier European resorts. Lesson quality is high, and the smaller scale of the ski areas makes them easier to get around as a first-timer.
Treble Cone, near Wanaka, has some of the best advanced terrain in the country – long runs, natural half-pipes, and genuine backcountry access. Queenstown is the clear winner here. It's a year-round adventure town with a bar and restaurant scene that punches well above its size – craft breweries, lakeside dining, and late-night spots all within walking distance. Wanaka is quieter but has a growing food scene and a handful of good bars with lake views. If après is high on your list, Queenstown is the one.
The season runs from mid-June to early October, with July and August offering the most reliable snow. September can be good for spring skiing with warmer temperatures and longer days.

The ski areas are smaller than the Alps, but the scenery is exceptional and the slopes are far less crowded. Snow quality is generally good, and the range of terrain – from gentle nursery slopes to serious backcountry – means there's something for every level.

Nous avons réservé un séjour au ski de dernière minute à Morzine via WeSki. Nous avions envisagé de réserver le séjour nous-mêmes, mais nous n'avons pas pu trouver un prix aussi avantageux que celui proposé par WeSki. L'entreprise a été super et nous n'avons rencontré aucun problème du début à la fin. Je passerai certainement de nouveau par eux pour réserver un autre week-end au ski.
