Arai Snow Resort, Japan

Arai sits close to the Sea of Japan, so storms frequently reload the mountain with dry, “goggle deep” powder. On clear days you can look across the valley toward the coast; on snowy days you’ll lap sheltered trees and bowls.

Skiing in Arai Snow Resort

Beginners: Gentle greens at the base Myoko Long Run, Village Road, Sunrise, Pony) make first turns simple, with easy lift access and a steady step-up to longer greens from the gondola mid-station

Intermediates: Plenty of room to cruise on Encore (FIS certified), Bear Valley, Umanose, Tategami and more. Expect consistent grooming on the main pistes and the option to stretch laps to 5.2 km (3.2 mi) on continuous on-piste routes, or to 7 km (4.35 mi) when you link sections top-to-bottom.

Advanced: On-piste blacks like Legendary, Exciter, Discovery have solid pitch, but the real draw is the avalanche controlled freeride terrain: ten zones (1.62 km²/400 acres) spanning bowls, glades and sub-alpine faces that open when patrol deems conditions safe.

Snowboarding: Arai is a rider favorite: carving-friendly groomers, frequent resets, and the same controlled freeride zones for powder laps. Night skiing is occasional and typically scheduled on lower slopes in peak periods.

Families

Everything sits together at the base (rentals, ski school, cafés, kids’ spaces), so moving with little ones is straightforward. The hotels add onsen, pool and spa for warm-up breaks, and the green network lets families step up gradually via the gondola mid-station.

Activities

Snow activities: Guided powder experiences when conditions allow; tubing; and a headline zip line experience.

Non-skiing activities: Onsen, swimming pools and spa.

Arai Snow Resort après ski

Après is relaxed and hotel centric, think lounge bars, sake tastings and cozy cafés rather than rowdy late nights. Weekends see a little more buzz, but it stays easygoing and family-friendly

Arai Snow Resort restaurants

An “everything-in-one-place” setup makes meals simple: quick noodles, curry and café plates near the lifts for lunch, plus sit-down options in the hotels for wagyū, seafood and tasting menus.
