Skiing in Zillertal

The Zillertal is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Beginners can enjoy the wide, panoramic slopes of Spieljoch and Zell am Ziller, while more advanced skiers can challenge themselves with steep descents in Hochfügen or the famous Harakiri run in Mayrhofen. For those seeking adventure, the Hintertux Glacier provides glacier skiing with breathtaking views, and several snow parks and freeride zones offer a thrilling experience for freestyle enthusiasts. The Zillertal is divided into four distinct ski areas, all connected with one lift pass, the Zillertal Superskipass.

  • Hochzillertal / Hochfügen / Spieljoch
  • This area is a family favorite, offering a mix of slopes for all levels.

    Kaltenbach (Hochzillertal): Known for its modern lift facilities and diverse terrain, Kaltenbach is ideal for both families and advanced skiers.

    Hochfügen: Offers high-altitude skiing with excellent snow reliability and off-piste opportunities.

    Fügen (Spieljoch): A smaller, family-friendly resort with gentle slopes and stunning views of the valley.

  • Zillertal Arena

  • The largest interconnected ski area in Zillertal, stretching across the Zillertal and Salzburg’s Pinzgau.

    Zell am Ziller: The main gateway to the Zillertal Arena, Zell am Ziller offers a more authentic Tyrolean village feel, with local restaurants, traditional bakeries, and a quieter après-ski scene.

    Gerlos: A charming alpine village that offers direct access to the Zillertal Arena, Gerlos is particularly popular with families and intermediates.

    Königsleiten: A charming village with ski-in/ski-out access, ideal for families.

    Krimml-Hochkrimml: Offers scenic slopes with a view of the famous Krimml Waterfalls.

  • Mountopolis

  • A lively area known for its challenging terrain and vibrant après-ski.

    Mayrhofen: One of the most famous ski resorts in Austria, Mayrhofen offers diverse slopes, including the steepest piste in Austria, the Harakiri.

    Penken, Ahorn, Rastkogel, Eggalm: These areas, part of the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen, provide a mix of challenging and easy slopes, perfect for skiers of all levels.

  • Ski- & Gletscherwelt Zillertal 3000

  • Home to Austria’s only year-round ski resort, the Hintertux Glacier, this area guarantees snow throughout the year.

    Tux-Finkenberg: Tux includes the popular Hintertux Glacier, Eggalm, and Rastkogel areas, offering skiing up to 3,250 meters.
