Resort de luxeJochberg is a quiet Tyrolean village at 924m, sitting 10km south of Kitzbühel in the Kitzbühel Alps - and providing direct access to KitzSki, one of the most celebrated ski areas in the world. While Kitzbühel itself trades on its glamorous reputation, the legendary Hahnenkamm Streif race, and a lively après-ski scene, Jochberg offers something different: a genuine Austrian mountain village with traditional farms, a Baroque parish church (St. Wolfgang), and a mining history stretching back 3,000 years. Copper was mined here from 1447 to 1926, and the Kupferplatte mine offers underground visits 150m below the surface. The locals call Jochberg a 'water village' for the many fountains, the Sintersbach waterfall, and the forest swimming pool that define the village's character.
From the village centre, the modern Wagstättbahn 10-person gondola lifts you directly into the KitzSki network - 188km of groomed pistes (233km including ski routes), 58 lifts, and terrain spanning seven mountains from Kirchberg in the west through Kitzbühel to the Pass Thurn and Resterhöhe in the south. The Wagstätt/Wurz piste, accessed directly from Jochberg, is rated among the five best runs in the entire KitzSki area. The spectacular 3S gondola - a 3.6km tri-cable gondola that crosses 400m above the Saukaser Valley - connects the Jochberg sector to the Pengelstein and Hahnenkamm terrain above Kitzbühel. This single ride is one of the most dramatic lift experiences in the Alps.
Jochberg's position between Kitzbühel and the Pass Thurn makes it a strategic base. The quieter southern sectors around Resterhöhe and Pass Thurn have their own microclimate (slightly colder and snowier), and the freeride terrain around the Pass Thurn lifts is a local powder secret - deserted until mid-morning while the crowds gather at Hahnenkamm. The Jochberg valley run is a local favourite, and the free Hausleiten beginner lift in the village makes it an affordable starting point for families. KitzSki has been voted one of the three best ski resorts in the world by the World Ski Awards for two consecutive years, and from Jochberg you have the full 188km at lower accommodation costs and without the Kitzbühel premium.
