La Grave best ski pistes

La Grave is a legendary freeride destination with no marked blue or red pistes, and around 100% off-piste or expert terrain. There are no formal grooming operations, this is big mountain skiing at its purest.

  • La Voûte (Extreme - Off-Piste): A steep couloir with glacial terrain, accessible only with a guide due to serious crevasse danger.
  • Col de la Lauze (Extreme - Off-Piste): A high-altitude glacial entry to the Vallons de la Meije; icy, exposed, and jaw-droppingly beautiful.
  • Glacier de la Girose (Extreme - Off-Piste): Offers numerous line choices across glacier terrain; technical, remote, and not patrolled.
  • Girose de Droite (Extreme - Off-Piste): A steeper variation on the Girose with more exposure and narrow couloirs.
  • Girose de Gauche (Extreme - Off-Piste): Slightly gentler slope angles, often used as an introduction to glacier skiing.
  • Couloirs de Chirouze (Extreme - Off-Piste): Narrow, committing lines that require perfect conditions and high skill.
  • Vallons de la Meije (Advanced - Off-Piste): The most skied sector; spacious, natural terrain with jaw-dropping views and a vertical drop over 2,000 m.
  • Vallons de Chancel (Advanced - Off-Piste): Lower elevation with playful drops, trees, and chutes ending near Lake Chambon.
  • Fréaux Couloir (Extreme - Off-Piste): Tight and technical descent through steep, rocky terrain into the valley.
  • Glacier du Tabuchet (Extreme - Off-Piste): Wild and isolated line from the glacier summit, exposed to <i dfn"Seracs are towering, unstable blocks or pillars of ice found on glaciers, often formed where crevasses intersect">seracs and avalanche terrain.
  • Descente des Enfetchores (Advanced - Off-Piste): An alternative to the Vallons, featuring traverses and short technical sections.
  • L'Orcière Droite/Gauche, “La Vaute” (Extreme - Off-Piste): Rarely skied, even by locals; narrow, remote, and one of the area's wildest descents.
