Beginners: Voss is ideal for newcomers, with three dedicated beginner areas: one at Hangurstoppen and two lower down. Most lifts serve easy greens or blues, making mountain access simple even for first-timers. Wide, forgiving runs like Trollbakken and Grebbesbakken help build confidence, and the gondola from town brings you straight to gentle terrain.
Intermediates: Intermediates can explore Voss’s variety of wide pistes, from flowing blue runs with forest backdrops to scenic descents at higher altitudes. The well groomed trails offer both challenge and charm, and with most pistes converging at Bavallen, regrouping with friends is easy. For a mid-level thrill, piste 19 is a great test.
Advanced: Voss has limited black terrain, but what’s there is worth the effort. The 2 km (1.24 mi) World Cup downhill course (black 6) delivers a top-to-bottom leg burner. To expand the challenge, hire a guide and explore the region’s ski touring routes, including access to Lønahorgi at 1,410 m (4,625 ft).
Snowboarding: Snowboarders will find learner friendly slopes across the mountain and two magic carpets for easy access while starting out. The terrain park near the six seater lift includes features for all skill levels and is open during night skiing hours too, making it a great freestyle spot in the evening.
Family skiing in Voss is relaxed and accessible. Children’s areas with magic carpets, beginner slopes near the main lifts, and nearby facilities make logistics simple. The resort is compact, so it’s easy to meet up or take breaks together at the Bavallen base or Hangurstoppen.
Snow activities: Snowshoeing, winter walking, ski touring, tubing, mountaineering, cross-country skiing.
Non-skiing activities: Indoor skydiving, paragliding, bowling, swimming pool, indoor climbing wall, cinema, museum, festivals like Vossajazz and Ekstremsportveko.
While Voss is fairly quiet midweek, it transforms on weekends when locals join the party. The Hangur 818 Bar at the gondola summit offers a scenic, relaxed après drink, while SkiBarBula in Bavallen delivers a full-on Saturday celebration with music, outdoor dancing, and drinks. For something more laid-back, Haik Bar in the Scandic Hotel features shuffleboard and lakeside views right near the gondola.
Voss offers a surprisingly diverse and refined culinary scene for a small town. At the top of the gondola, Hangurstoppen Restaurant combines breathtaking views with hearty dishes and stone baked pizzas, ideal for both skiers and après enthusiasts. In the village, Elva Restaurant stands out for its lakeside setting and elegant, gourmet plates that highlight local ingredients. For something more casual, Tre Brør Kafé in the town square is a popular spot for coffee and homemade cake, while Malin Sushi offers a fresh take with classic Japanese favourites and poké bowls. Whether you're in the mood for mountain comfort food or refined dining, Voss caters to every taste.
4.9/5I usually book flights, transfers, hotel, ski rental and lift passes myself but this year used WeSki for a trip to Morzine. It was so much easier. Everything worked perfectly - transfers arrived on time and there was plenty of feedback throughout the whole process giving you confidence the holiday would go smoothly.
A really useful service that is so much easier to use than other 'all-inclusive' sites. It nicely bridges the gap between a travel agent and booking the trip yourself online. I will use WeSki every time I go skiing from now on.
We booked a late minute skiing trip to Morzine through we ski. We looked at booking the trip ourselves but could get anywhere near the price quoted by we ski. The company was excellent and we had no problems at all from start to finish. I would definitely use them to book another weekend skiing trip.
Seamless experience from start to finish. I was spending ages trying to sort out a weekend break and managed to do it with we ski in minutes and for the same price as booking it all up yourself. Flight, transfer and accommodation was all as expected and faultless.
