My Les Menuires ski holiday: a cosy, quiet village with Three Valleys skiing and après worth travelling for

A week in Les Menuires with friends: quiet slopes, a ski-in ski-out base, and the Three Valleys on the doorstep.

What does a group of friends who ski all over Europe look for in a resort? For Jack, it's a ski-in ski-out base, quiet slopes, and La Folie Douce within skiing distance. He found all three in Les Menuires, plus paragliding straight off the slopes and a sledging session he still can't quite justify.

Advanced skier · 35 years on the slopes

I started skiing when I was about eight, going on ski trips in Austria and France with my dad, and I've been hooked ever since. Fast forward to now, and a group of friends and I head out skiing all across Europe every other year.

"It has everything any type of skier needs because of the connection to the Three Valleys."

Where did you stay?

We stayed at Les Alpages de Reberty, and I have to say, it was a fantastic spot! It was perfectly located and had an awesome ski-out experience, which is really important for my group when we plan our trips. The staff and facilities were fine, and overall, it was solid value for what we paid.

What surprised you most about Les Menuires?

I absolutely loved my time in Les Menuires! It's a cosy little ski area and village, which meant no crowds at all. Plus, it's part of the Three Valleys, so I could easily ski over to Val Thorens and enjoy everything from La Folie Douce to tons of restaurants, après-ski spots, and ski shops.

How was the après-ski?

In two words: Folie Douce. It's the best après-ski I've experienced in my entire skiing life, and we pick some of our destinations based on whether they have a Folie Douce experience.

How was the snow and weather in January?

I had an awesome week with the snow! One day we had to take a break and relax while it was snowing, but overall, the conditions were on our side.

Who would you recommend Les Menuires to?

I think it's a great resort for all types of groups, whether they're groups of friends, families, couples, beginners, or experienced skiers. It has everything any type of skier needs because of the connection to the Three Valleys. I've been skiing with all types of groups in the past, so that's how I see it.

What was the highlight of your trip?

A couple of unexpected highlights were the paragliding, done directly from the slopes and landing on your skis, and the snow sledging, which feels like pure stupidity but becomes one of the funniest things you can do with a group of guys who basically have no fear.

How would you sum up the trip to a friend?

"You won't understand. You just have to be there to get it."
